Live Earth Concerts (2007)

A series of benefit concerts started in 2007 as an annual global event for an effort to promote awareness of the consequences of the oncoming climatic change and to enhance global warming.

The first concerts held on 7th of July 2007 in various places of the earth, in every continent, even in Antarctica (!) and broadcasted all over the world in 130 countries with 500 media partners including radio, TV channels, internet, etc. In the map below we see the cities and the countries that held these events.Many celebrity mucisians took part in the USA kai European concerts like Metallica, Gennesis, Madonna, Shakira, Police, Bon Jobi, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Kasabian, Foo Fighters, Duran Duran, etc. In the rest Continents the majority were famous local artists. Presenters were also famous politicians and cinema celebrities like Al Gore (one of the founder of Live Earth Concerts), Leonardo DiCaprio, Peter Garret (ex-frontman of Midnight Oil), Naomi Campbell, Cameron Diaz.

The event was critisized by other rock stars like Bob Geldof , Roger Dartley from Who, Arctic Monkeys and Muse as of a useless effort that consumed too much energy and consequently too much carbon emissions in order to be organized and be held for an issue that is well known to the majority of people. Also there was no transparency concerning the profits and incomes. We read in wikipedia:

Bands including The Who, Muse and the Arctic Monkeys dubbed Live Earth "Private Jets for Climate Change."The event's total carbon footprint, including the artists' and spectators' travel and energy consumption, was probably at least 74,500 tonnes, according to John Buckley of CarbonFootPrint.com - more than 3,000 times the average Briton's annual footprint. Performers flew at least 222,623.63 miles (about 358,278 kilometres) — the equivalent of nearly nine times round the planet — to take part in the event, and this figure does not include transport of technicians, dancers and support staff. An estimate reported that 100,000 planted trees are required to offset total carbon emissions produced during the entire event, as well as a key sponsor for the event being Chevrolet, promoting a new hybrid four-wheel drive.

Next Line Earth concert will be held in only one place, Mumbai, India on 7 of December 2008. We read in wikipedia:

In choosing India for the event, Al Gore stated: "India will be among the leading powers of the global economy in the coming decades [...] as a democracy that is looked up to by many nations, especially for its commitment to inclusive growth for its diverse peoples, India has a major role to play in leadership by example for the climate crisis and sustainable development."
