Eco-communities as a social vision
Egalitarian and ecological communities, like the pictured East Wind (www.eastwind.org), are very close to our vision of an ecological society

"The Seed" by Aurora, album: A Different Kind of Human (Step 2) (2019)

Just like the seed

I don’t know where to go Through dirt and shadow I grow I’m reaching light through the struggle Just like the sea, I’m chasing the wonder I unravel myself, all in slow motion. You cannot eat money, oh no You cannot eat money oh no When the last tree has fallen and the rivers are poisoned, You cannot eat money oh no You cannot eat money, oh no You cannot eat money oh no When the last tree has fallen and the rivers are poisoned, You cannot eat money oh no Suffocate me, so my tears can be rain I will water the ground where I stand So that the flowers can grow back again cause just like the sea, everything want to live We are burning our fingers But we learn and forgive You cannot eat money, oh no You cannot eat money oh no When the last tree has fallen and the rivers are poisoned, You cannot eat money oh no You cannot eat money, oh no You cannot eat money oh no When the last tree has fallen and the rivers are poisoned, You cannot eat money oh no Feed me sunlight, feed me air Feed me truth and feed me prayers Feed me sunlight, feed me air Feed me truth and feed me prayers I see images of Killer whales You cannot eat money, oh no You cannot eat money oh no When the last tree has fallen and the rivers are poisoned, You cannot eat money oh no You cannot eat money, oh no You cannot eat money oh no When the last tree has fallen and the rivers are poisoned, You cannot eat money oh no

A Different Kind of Human (Step 2) is a concept album, tackling themes of ecological crisis that aim at society's self-centred capitalistic apathy. (wikipedia)

Anne Clark – Poem For A Nuclear Romance, album: Changing places (1983)

What will it matter then
When the sky's not blue but blazing red
The fact that I simply love you
When all our dreams lay deformed and dead
We'll be two radioactive dancers
Spinning in different directions
And my love for you will be reduced to powder
The screams will perform louder and louder
Your marble flesh will soon be raw and burning
And kissing will reduce my lips to a pult
Hideous creatures will return from the underground
And the fact that I love you
Will die
You don't have to sleep to see nightmares
Just hold me close
Then closer still
And you'll feel the probabilities pulling us apart.

"Radioactivity" by Kraftwerk, album "Radio-Activity" (1975), remix (1991)

Lyrically, the 1975 version of the song plays upon the meaning of its title, with the line "Discovered by Madame Curie (In fact, Natural radioactivity was discovered by Henri Becquerel (and independently by Silvanus Thompson); induced radioactivity by Irène Joliot-Curie, Marie Curie's daughter. Curie coined the term "radioactivity").

The song was re-recorded as a radically different version for The Mix album in 1991 and was issued as a single in an edited form with remixes by François Kevorkian and William Orbit. While the original does not offer a value judgement on the safety of radioactivity, the 1991 version drops all references to radio and incorporates additional lyrics with a pointed anti-nuclear theme, remaking the central lyrical hook as "stop radioactivity" and also referring to "contaminated population" and mentioning by name Chernobyl, Harrisburg (Three Mile Island), Sellafield and Hiroshima.

The band performed the Mix version at the "Stop Sellafield" concert in 1992. The song was performed during Kraftwerk's set at Coachella to commemorate the anniversary of the Chernobyl incident on April 26 (the date of the band's performance). Live versions of "Radioactivity" feature on both English and German versions of the band's 2005 live album Minimum-Maximum.

In 2012, Kraftwerk performed the new remix of "Radioactivity" during No Nukes 2012, held in Japan. To commemorate the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, Hütter sang alternate lyrics to the song in Japanese, at one point even name checking Fukushima. This version of the song also has notable lyric changes such as "Chernobyl, Harrisburg, Sellafield, Fukushima". This altered version of the song is also the version Kraftwerk performs live to this day, albeit with the second chorus switching back to the English or German lyrics sung on the Mix version, depending on where they perform. “Wasteland” by Solitary Experiments, album: Advance Into The Unknown (2003)

Suddenly came from somewhere
A threatening storm of dreadful fear
This slowly rising became fast
More critical and dangerous

It filled the air with dust and dirt
And swallowed the light from the earth
The sky stands under burning fires
Spread the age of dark empires

See the tears in my eyes
Take a look to the skies
There's nothing to prevent
We are waiting for the end
Our world is dying
Mother earth is crying
There's nothing to prevent
We are waiting for the end

Devastated landscapes everywhere
Breathe contaminated air
Feel and taste the acid rain
Falling down, increasing pain

Last days of the whole mankind
Senseless race against the time
In a world without a chance
Where nothing still remains

See the tears in my eyes
Take a look to the skies
There's nothing to prevent
We are waiting for the end
Our world is dying
Mother earth is crying
There's nothing to prevent
We are waiting for the end

An apocalyptic song (thanks again to our friend Mpinelikomistress) about a future collapse of biosphere and the consequent devastation of humanity. If we’ll come to such a condition, we’ll be simply unable to reverse things and we’ll watch our elimination.

”I Breathe” by Vacuum, Album: Plutonium Cathedral (1997)

I breathe, clouds beneath my window
I see rockets in the sky
I feel satellites in Limbo
I breathe, oxygen up high
I load lead inside my engine
Lead and alcohol
On the radio depending
I sign the protocol
Hail the audience the media
People everywhere
In the hours ahead I'll see your

Green biosphere
Clean biosphere
Castles in the air
Climbing the stair
Way to heaven
When...

I breathe, clouds beneath my window
I see rockets in the sky
I feel satellites in Limbo
I breathe, oxygen up high
I've been trained to navigate
My futurist balloon
After years a week will see me
Landing on the moon
Raise a banner on the planets
Life grows everywhere
In the manner of the mission

Green biosphere
Clean biosphere
Castles in the air
Climbing the stair
Way to heaven
When...

"Sweet Harmony" by Beloved, Album: Conscience (1993)

Is it right or wrong
Try to find a place
We can all belong?
Be as one
Try to get on by
If we unify
We should really try...
All this time
Spinning round and round
Made the same mistakes
That we've always found
Surely now
We could move along
Make a better world?
No it can't be wrong
Let's come together
Right now
Oh yeah
In sweet harmony
Time is running out
Let there be no doubt
We should sort things out
If we care
Like we say we do
Not just empty words
For a week or two
Make the world
Your priority
Try to live your life
Ecologically
Play a part
In a greater scheme
Try to live the dream
On a wider scene
Let's come together
Right now
Oh yeah
In sweet harmony

A call for unity and taking ecological resposibility for our planet.

Album: “The Eraser” by Thom Yorke (2006)

Analyse

A self-fulfilling prophecy of endless possibility
You roll in reams across the street
In algebra, in algebra

The fences that you cannot climb
The sentences that do not rhyme
In all that you can ever change
The one you're looking for

It gets you down
It gets you down
There's no spark
No light in the dark
It gets you down
It gets you down
You traveled far
What have you found
That there's no time
There's no time
To analyse
To think things through
To make sense

Like cows in the city, they never looked so pretty
By power carts and blackouts
Sleeping like babies

It gets you down
It gets you down
You're just playing a part
You're just playing a part
You're playing a part
Playing a part
And there's no time
There's no time
To analyse

The Clock

Time is running out for us
But you just move the hands upon the clock
You throw coins in the wishing well
For us
You just move your hands upon the wall

It comes to you begging you to stop
Wake up
But you just move your hands upon the clock
Throw coins in the wishing well
For us
You make believe that you are still in charge

and it rained all night

and it rained all night and washed the filth away
down new york airconditioned drains,
the click click clack of the heavy black trains,
a million engines in neutral.
the tick tock tick of a ticking time bomb
50 ft of concrete underground,
one little leak becomes a lake says the
tiny voice in my ear piece.
so i give in to the rhythm, the click click clack.
im too wasted to fight back
tick tock goes the pendulum on the old grandfather clock
i... i ca see but i can never reach you
and it rained all night and then all day,
the drops were the size of your hands and face,
the worms come out to see what's up.
we pull the car up from the river.
its relentless
invisible
indefatigable
indisputable
undeniable
so how come it looks so beautiful?
how come the moon falls from the sky?
can see you, but i can never reach you
i can see you but i can never reach you

Obscured lyrics that seem not to deal with global warming in a dedicated to the oncoming climatic change, as Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has stated. We post some lyrics that can be interpreted freely as having somewhat to do with human reactions facing oncoming troubles or disasters. We read in wikipedia about Thom Yorke’s statements for his debut solo work:

Thom Yorke said much of his songwriting on the album was personal, but also inspired by the issue of climate change. Yorke was a spokesman for Friends of the Earth's "The Big Ask" campaign to reduce carbon emissions, and Radiohead played the first gig of their 2006 tour at a benefit for the group (performing "Cymbal Rush" before the album was announced).

In describing his motivation for releasing the album, Yorke said, "I've been in the band since we left school and never dared do anything on my own, and it was like, 'This is getting stupid.' It was like, 'Man, I've got to find out what it feels like,' you know? And it was good. It was a really good time."

"Atoms for Peace" was the title of a speech given by Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1953. It is also the motto of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Harrowdown Hill in Oxfordshire is notable for being the place where the body of biological warfare expert Dr David Kelly was found in 2003. His evidence had raised questions about Saddam Hussein's possession of Weapons of Mass Destruction — the official justification for the UK government's decision to invade Iraq. The homonymous song was written about David Kelly who, as a matter of some contention, committed suicide in 2003. However, there is speculation that he was murdered, as demonstrated in the song. Thom Yorke himself confirmed the song's meaning in several interviews.

The album's cover, a linocut by Stanley Donwood, depicts a figure in black hat and trenchcoat standing in imitation of King Canute, trying and failing to command the ocean. Around him are iconic London buildings that have been swept away by the Thames, including the Tower of London, the Houses of Parliament and the Thames Barrier. Donwood included this picture and other images seen in The Eraser booklet in his art exhibition London Views, prior to the album's release. The images were inspired by a large flood Donwood and Yorke both witnessed in Cornwal in 2004.

The CD packaging of The Eraser is unusual for a high profile release in that it is made of cardboard but unlike a digipak, it does not contain any plastic. However, Yorke said in an interview that he did not have his CDs certified as carbon neutral.
You can hear many songs from this album in myspace where there is also the complete artwork of the album cover.

The Landscape Is Changing by Depeche Mode, Album: Construction time again, 1983

The landscape is changing, the landscape is crying
Thousand of acres of forest are dying
Carbon copies from the hills above the forest line
Acid streams are flowing ill across the countryside

cause I don’t care if you’re going nowhere
Just take good care of the world
I don’t care if you’re going nowhere
Just take good care of the world

Now we’re rearranging there’s no use denying
Mountains and valleys cant you hear them sighing?
Evolution, the solution, almost certainty
Can you imagine this intrusion of their privacy?

cause I don’t care if you’re going nowhere
Just take good care of the world
I don’t care if you’re going nowhere
Just take good care of the world

Token gestures, some semblance of intelligence
Can we be blamed for the security of ignorance

cause I don’t care if you’re going nowhere
Just take good care of the world
I don’t care if you’re going nowhere
Just take good care of the world

A song about the huge changes in landscape by humans: mountain slopes, forests, rainforests, wetlands are deforestated, or laid bare with a dramatic and non reversible way in order to be replaced by chemical/GMO-based single-crop farming, by water-wasting golf fields or industries, by mining or construction activities, etc. The singer takes himself out the so called progress who leads to nowhere and begs for respecting nature.
