Eco-communities as a social vision
Egalitarian and ecological communities, like the pictured East Wind (www.eastwind.org), are very close to our vision of an ecological society

Mother Nature's Son – The Beatles - 1968

Born a poor young country boy
Mother Nature's son

All day long I'm sitting singing
songs for everyone

Sit beside a mountain stream
see her waters rise

Listen to the pretty sound of music
as she flies

Find me in my field of grass
Mother Nature's son

Swaying daises sing a lazy song
beneath the sun

Mother Nature's son

Included also in the White Album, this song is reflecting a feeling of connection with nature, with a rather naive and lazy mood, which characterised the hippy movement. However, it is an indication of the "back to nature" movement, which will take more diverse forms (eg. agro-communes and intentional communities) that we may explore in later postings. According to Paul McCartney, the inspiration for writing this song came from a lecture of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, when the four Beatles were in India, following the Transcedental Meditation courses of Maharishi. Lennon wrote a song of a similar lyrical theme (not published then), which later would transform to take the form of the widely known "Jealous Guy".
